Even if you are working in a team, the likelihood is that one person is the driving force behind the campaign and the main source of information about it. However, it's important that during the campaign, as many people as possible are out there working on your behalf. In order to do this effectively they need to be armed with the basics about the project, Spacehive, and how it all works.
We have created a crib sheet template below that you can copy and paste into a word document, and edit so that it contains the relevant information for your campaign. You can then share this with colleagues to bring them up to speed.
Spacehive crib sheet
We are running a crowdfunding campaign on Spacehive, the UK and Ireland’s dedicated platform for funding local projects.
Our campaign is called _______________________________________
Our campaign page URL is _______________________________________
Our campaign will run until _______________________________________
Our crowdfunding target is _______________________________________
- Spacehive has a partnership with [insert name of council], which can pledge up to [insert maximum pledge amount] to our campaign. We have made an application to their fund via Spacehive, and our campaign will be considered after a few weeks of crowdfunding. Getting a pledge will in part be based on the strength of our project and its alignment with their funding priorities, but also the popularity of our campaign.
- We must hit our target in order to receive the funds. If we don’t hit our target, then we don’t receive anything. People can ‘back’ our campaign by ‘pledging’ via the campaign page. A pledge is made via debit card, Direct Debit, or bank transfer.
- The ‘pledge’ is then held by Stripe, a payments company. If we hit our target, the backer receives an email confirming that this has happened, and that we will receive the funds. If we don’t, then the backer will be refunded.
- Crowdfunding means we need to actively promote our campaign if we want to receive pledges. The minimum pledge is £2, and at the start of the campaign we need to try and gather as many of these as possible as this will demonstrate the popular appeal of our project.
- Our project has successfully passed a verification process, where it was assessed to make sure that it is viable and that we have a credible plan to deliver it. We can cite this process if anyone asks us about our project plan, especially larger funders we might approach.
