If crowdfunding on behalf of a registered charity or CASC, you can collect Gift Aid on pledges made to your crowdfunding campaign by eligible UK taxpayers.
How to do it
If you are crowdfunding on behalf of a registered charity, you can opt in to collecting Gift Aid on the eligible pledges that you receive. Visit the ‘Delivery’ section of your Project Dashboard to opt into collecting Gift Aid and our team will confirm that you are eligible when we check your project during verification.
During your campaign, individual backers will then be given the option to include Gift Aid with their pledge and allow you to claim an extra 25% on top of their pledge from the UK Government.
Gift Aid will not contribute towards your crowdfunding total, so it won’t assist you in reaching your target, however it can provide a much needed financial boost for the delivery of the project.
At the end of your campaign, Spacehive will email you to provide all of the information required for you to fill out a "Schedule spreadsheet" to claim Gift Aid via the gov.uk website here.
Please ensure that the charity name that is assigned to your Spacehive account is accurate, as this is what will be pulled through to all of your backers' Gift Aid declarations and could invalidate them if it's not correct.
Claims made via Charities Online are normally paid within 20 working days of HMRC receiving the claim.
