Projects for Nature offers businesses a meaningful way to invest in nature recovery in England, with confidence that their funding supports screened, high-quality projects.
Why businesses are getting involved
By supporting projects on the platform, businesses can demonstrate their contribution to mitigating imminent nature loss beyond their supply chain. The diverse portfolio of projects allows businesses to search and select projects that align best with their strategy and nature priorities, such as those identified through TNFD (Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures) or when setting science-based targets for nature recovery under SBTN (Science Based Targets Network).
Eligibility requirements
All participating businesses must:
Be UK registered – You'll need to provide your Tax Identification, VAT Registration, or Company Registration Number for verification
Confirm additionality – Your funding must be in addition to, not instead of, actions to reduce carbon emissions or negative nature impacts in your operations and supply chains
Demonstrate environmental leadership – You must meet at least 3 examples of environmental leadership from the criteria list
The full list of qualifying actions is available in the business eligibility criteria document. Examples include commitments to climate targets, nature-positive strategies, and environmental reporting frameworks.
The screening process
The Projects for Nature partners screen businesses using these criteria. This screening, alongside associated communications guidance, ensures that funding is genuinely additional to businesses' transition towards nature positive and net zero operations. It protects against greenwashing and maintains the integrity of the platform for all participants.

Founding Business Partners
Founding Business Partners are the pioneering businesses that stepped up to support Projects for Nature from its early stages. Their leadership helps encourage other businesses to invest in nature recovery and demonstrates that corporate donations can make a real difference. Information about current Founding Business Partners is available on the Projects for Nature About page.
Important: What you won't receive
Businesses cannot purchase carbon credits, biodiversity credits, or Biodiversity Net Gain units through Projects for Nature. Involvement in the platform is about taking additional action for nature's recovery, not seeking to compensate for or offset negative impacts. For carbon credits and other nature investment mechanisms, Defra is working with the British Standards Institution to develop Nature Investment Standards.
Register your interest
If you believe your business meets these criteria, register your interest through the Projects for Nature platform. The partnership team will be in touch about the screening process and next steps.
