Restoring nature requires finance from all sources, but there's currently a significant gap between available funding and what's needed.
The scale of the challenge
Current funding for nature recovery comes primarily from public sources. The gap between this and what's needed to restore nature is called the nature finance gap:
Globally: The estimated finance gap is $4.1 trillion by 2050
UK-wide: The estimated finance gap is £44-97 billion over the next 10 years
England: The estimated finance gap is £21-53 billion over the next 10 years
Why this matters
Reversing the decline of nature by 2030 requires significant investment from all sources. Private investment, including corporate donations, needs to work alongside public funding to close this gap.
Government targets
The UK government has set a goal to raise over £500 million per year in private investment for nature's recovery by 2027, rising to over £1 billion by 2030. Projects for Nature is one mechanism for channelling corporate donations towards this goal.
